Description

This Baked BBQ Chicken recipe features tender, juicy boneless chicken breasts coated in a flavorful homemade BBQ sauce made from soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar. Perfect for a quick and easy weeknight dinner, it requires minimal prep and cooks in the oven to achieve a deliciously caramelized finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 3-4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

BBQ Sauce

  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup (preferably no high fructose corn syrup)
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and spray a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Season Chicken: Evenly season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides to enhance flavor.
  3. Prepare Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the minced garlic, soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Coat Chicken: Place the seasoned chicken breasts in the prepared baking dish and pour half of the BBQ sauce over them, making sure each breast is evenly coated.
  5. Bake: Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Halfway through baking, baste the chicken with the remaining BBQ sauce to keep it moist and flavorful.
  6. Serve: Remove the chicken from the oven and serve hot, drizzled with any extra sauce and garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken is fully cooked to 165°F for safe consumption.
  • For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in the BBQ sauce for 1-2 hours before baking.
  • Can substitute chicken thighs if preferred, adjusting cooking time accordingly.
  • Serve with sides like steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a balanced meal.
